    A Story Hour for Grownups

    Come to the Vancouver (main) library for live readings of short stories that will make you laugh, cry, or maybe even shiver. It’s a great lunch-hour escape. Held Wednesdays, April 4 and 18, 12:05-12:55 pm in the Klickitat Room (level 4).

    The White Salmon Valley library hosts this series of slide shows and talks by area specialists -- along with "please touch" displays for children -- on four Fridays: April 6, 13, 20 and 27, 6-8 pm. (See the accompanying photography display under "Exhibits" below.)

    Richard Ireland returned to Haiti in November 2011 after serving there in the Peace Corps in the late 90s. Hear about the challenges and good signs he saw there at this monthly travelogue series at the Battle Ground library on Tuesday, April 17 at 6:30 pm.

    book cover Take a (textile) trip around the world World traveler and textile collector Carol Pinnell will talk about ethnic fabrics and show items from her collection. Bring a piece of folk art to share or identify. Held at the Ridgefield library on Saturday, April 14 at 1 pm.

    Songs from around the world performed by Lauren Pelon. Selections reflect our engagement with nature, and concerns and issues about creating sustainable life for all creatures. Held at the White Salmon Valley library on Thursday, April 19 at 6:30 pm.

    National Money Smart Week
    Workshop Series

    clip art A week-long series of free classes to help consumers manage their personal finances. All sessions held at the Vancouver (main) library in the Klickitat Room (level 4).

    Enjoy a double feature with a money theme. Call for movie titles (we can't list them here). At the Vancouver (main) library in the Columbia Room (level 1) on Sunday, April 29, 1-5 pm.

    An exhibit the whole family will enjoy. Nature and wildlife photographs by noted regional artists. April 2 through 28 at the White Salmon Valley library.

    Quilting expert Mary Jo Lewis has perfected her own unique style through the years, blending color and design in unforgettable works of art and craft. Mary Jo's quilts are on display at the Battle Ground library through April 30.

    Vancouver Mall Community Library will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 8 due to Westfield closure for the holiday. The main library in downtown Vancouver will have regular Sunday hours, 10 am to 6 pm.

  • Last-minute tax help
    AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will continue to provide free tax assistance at area libraries and other community locations through April 17. The program is focused on helping low- and moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 or older. See a listing of AARP tax-help locations and hours, and check out FVRL's list of tax resources.
