Senior Public Services Librarian, Teen Services

The Vancouver Community Library branch of Fort Vancouver Regional Library District (FVRL) has an opening for a Senior Public Services Librarian with a focus on Teen Services (ages 12 - 18).

Senior Public Services Librarians

This position is part of a collaborative team of six Senior Public Services Librarians who support the branch. All of the Senior Public Services Librarians work throughout the branch to provide a full range of information services to patrons of all ages including responding to reference and reader’s advisory questions, locating materials, and instructing patrons in using library technology. The Senior Librarians also work closely to oversee the work of the 28 Senior Library Assistants who work at the branch. Each Senior Librarian is responsible for assigning work, providing guidance regarding application of policies and procedures, and conducting quarterly performance appraisals for the team members they supervise.

Teen Services

Vancouver Community Library loves our teens and is proud to have a dedicated room, Teen Central, where they can browse books or materials, explore new technologies, start on homework projects and socialize in a comfortable and supervised environment. Teen Central provides teens with access to the branch’s YA fiction books, YA magazines and YA graphic novels, computers with unlimited internet access, multiple gaming consoles and games, and a wide variety of programs.

This Senior Librarian will be responsible for maintaining Teen Central as a welcoming space for our teen patrons. They are also responsible for developing and implementing engaging teen programs for the branch. This is the only position in the branch (or district) with a focus on teens. We’d love this librarian to build and maintain relationships with with community partners relevant to teen services and collaborate with other librarians throughout FVRL.

Job Requirements

To be considered, applicants must have:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program or the ability to obtain a Washington State Librarian certification upon hire.
  • 3 - 5 years of related work experience, including customer service
  • 1 - 3 years of supervisory experience or lead worker experience

The compensation for this position begins at $48,090 annually with an excellent benefits package including health insurance benefits, life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment, short term and long term disability benefits, Washington State PERS retirement and paid time off.
