Heritage Months and Observances
FVRLibraries is honoring select Heritage Months and Observances in 2025 with a selection of books and other resources presented on our website. These recognitions are an opportunity for all members of the community to learn more about the traditions, people, history, and current experiences of ethnic and marginalized groups while we celebrate their achievements and contributions to our world.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
The third Monday in January is a federal holiday to honor the life of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is also designated as a National Day of Service, encouraging everyone to volunteer in commemoration of his legacy.

Black History Month
Black History Month celebrates and recognizes the history, rich culture, achievements, and contributions of Black individuals and communities in the United States.

Women's History Month
Women's History Month commemorates and encourages the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.

Exploring Arab American Heritage
National Arab American Heritage Month recognizes the culture of Arab Americans in order to raise awareness and foster understanding about the diversity of Arab American communities.

Jewish American Heritage Month
Jewish American Heritage Month acknowledges the achievements of all Jewish Americans in order to bring understanding and awareness about the diverse heritage of the Jewish community.

AAPI Month
Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders from the islands of Micronesia and Polynesia in the United States.

National Civility Month
National Civility Month is celebrated every August to remind people to treat others with kindness, empathy, and respect.
